💡 WiseUp! Vol. 36 — Still have documents in Pocket?

Pocket is closing its doors today, but your notes can live on. Also, discover how Eleanor Konik’s Reader-to-Obsidian system uses AI to turn highlights into lasting ideas. Plus, we share favorites, Markdown exports, and more!

On the app side, we've added reading time to the Reader API, and fixed a few pesky bugs like OCR permissions and screen rotation on Boox. Read on for all the details or check out our log of weekly improvements.

Before we get into the tips…

📍 Let's start with a reading recommendation

🌲 The Konik Method for organizing electronic notes

This week, we’re spotlighting our resident note-taking expert Eleanor Konik and her recent Substack post on her Reader-to-Obsidian workflow, including the prompt she uses to generate headers for her atomic notes. (If you’ve ever submitted a bug report, her name might sound familiar 😉)

"It’s a perfect job to outsource — and don’t worry, I still get the ‘extra touch’ of re-reading everything, because I have to check the outputs… which I would do whether I was asking one of my teenaged babysitters to process this file, or an AI."

📰 Sep 27 - Oct 3 updates

What's new in Reader and Readwise

⏱️ NEW! Reading Time API — Rasul added the reading time to the Reader API, so you can get a sense of how long a document would take to read. This assumes a reading speed of about 265 words per minute.

📸 Fixed OCR Permissions — Fixed a permissions glitch that was causing cameras to fail in some Android 16 devices. Using OCR for adding highlights to Readwise should once again work properly.

⌨ Fixed Custom Scrolling — Rasul fixed an issue where custom keyboard shortcuts weren't properly scrolling through documents.

🖊️ Fixed Link Taps — Mati fixed a glitch where taps with the Apple Pencil wouldn’t register on links. You no longer need to use your finger to open or save a link in Reader.

🔁 Fixed Screen Rotation — Mati resolved an issue where the app wasn't properly rotating the screen on Boox e-readers.

🔗 Fixed Highlight Navigation — Rasul fixed a glitch preventing Reader from jumping to the correct highlight location when following a “view highlight” link from Readwise or exported notes.

🎨 Fixed Login Colors — Arek corrected the color scheme for the login bottom sheet in Reader to ensure proper visual consistency.

🚥 Fixed iOS Interface — Mati addressed an issue where new iOS window controls were overlapping with Reader buttons, making them difficult to tap. The interface now properly accommodates iOS26 system elements.

📄 Fixed PDF Controls — Mati removed the auto-highlight toggle that was incorrectly appearing on PDFs in original view.

🛜 Improved Parsing — Krzys improved how Reader handles posts from wsj.com, g1.globo.com, yahoo.com, nysfocus.com, abc.es, academialatin.com, theathleticm.com, archive.is (and its mirrors), theguardian.com, and nytimes.com.

👍 Three featured finds

From support specialist Angie

Something to read 📖
The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen. Maybe it’s the shared last name, but Angie couldn’t help feeling a connection since her own parents fled Vietnam in 1975. Though fiction, it’s a gripping tale of espionage, loyalty, and double lives that captures the very real weight of the Vietnam War, exile, and the search for belonging told with sharp, human honesty that resonates universally.

Something to focus 🍋
When coffee’s done its job, Angie switches to a sparkling lemonade refresher. A combination of homemade lemonade concentrate, a scoop of Birdman BCAA/Glutamine, and bubbly water. It’s crisp, energizing, and helps with muscle recovery. Perfect for keeping the day bright, focused, and just a little bit fancy.

Something to unwind 🔴
Red light therapy is big in dermatology and physical therapy offices, so Angie figured, why not bring it home? She uses a red light therapy panel a few times a week for about 15 minutes, and it’s amazing for skin healing (bruises disappear so much faster!). Even her dog Boba benefits from RLT, as studies show it eases pain and improves mobility.

Why we don't like labels

Have you ever felt like a Spanish-French toast labeled as American pizza with an English name in a Japanese konbini? No? Maybe this is what we mean when we say we're a multicultural team!

See you next week!

Warmly,
the Readwise customer support team
