๐ก WiseUp! Vol. 1 โ Add tags with the browser extension, refresh your library, and more
Welcome to WiseUp!, our new weekly newsletter to help you make the most of Reader and Readwise.
This week, we're sharing tips on how you can organize your library, along with notes on what's changed in Readwise and Reader. We're also featuring a short tutorial on how you can refresh your Reader library from our community manager, Erin.
Exciting news! It was a great week for new features, including ๐ฌ Chat with Highlights, ๐ Apple Notes Export, and more. Read on for all the details or view our log of weekly improvements.
But before we get into the tipsโฆ
๐ Let's start with a reading recommendation

School is Not Enough
While compiling Wisereads, our editor Abi found a reflection on how schools can deprive children of chances to develop practical masteryโan entry that didnโt make our readersโ top three, but still resonates. "Many fairy tales and stories are about finding oneโs place. The hero begins as a child full of wonder and ends up achieving mastery over the worldโฆ If we fail to allow children continuous contact with the world, we risk them coming to see their own lives as mere abstractions."From the support inbox

โ A Reader question from Alkarim B:
Can Reader auto-delete old feed items?

Yes! If a single feed has more than 1,000 unseen documents, Reader will automatically delete the oldest items from that feed.
โ A Readwise question from Ian S:
Is there a way to filter for unread/unreviewed highlights?

Switch to the gallery view in Readwise and click on a book to see how many of your highlights haven't been reviewed.

๐ฐ January 24-31 updates
What's new in Reader and Readwise
๐ฌ NEW! Chat with Highlights โ You can now search and chat with your highlights using AI inside Readwise. In addition to the chat interface, thereโs also a handy 1-click button on every highlight that draws connections between related highlights in your library. Props to Adam & Tristan.
๐ฌ NEW! Choose YouTube Transcript โ Select which captions youโd like to use by pressing the icon at the top, next to video settings. Matiโs change makes it easier to get transcripts in your preferred language. It is now easier to see whether you made highlights on a different version of a particular transcript.
๐ NEW! Full Text Export to Obsidian โ You can now automatically export the full contents of your articles โ not just highlights โ into Obsidian. Update your plugin and head over to your Obsidian export preferences to toggle this feature and customize your templates.
๐ NEW! Apple Notes Export โ You can now automatically export highlights straight into Apple Notes, thanks to Scott.
๐ผ๏ธ Fixed Google Docs Export โ Rasul made sure images are now properly exported to Google Docs as part of our NotebookLLM integration, instead of bare URLs.
โ๏ธ Fixed Long Views โ On Android, filtered views with long names now display correctly, thanks to Arek. You should no longer see the tops of item counts overlapping underneath the title.
๐ Fixed Document Navigation โ The ?
help icon has been returned to its rightful place in the sidebar tutorial that appears in views with no documents. The keyboard shortcut to close the left notebook sidebar ([
by default) works properly again. Mati also fixed a glitch where clicking next to a YouTube video unintentionally navigated to a different part of the video.
๐๏ธ Fixed Encoded Feeds โ RSS feeds should now update more reliably, thanks to Tadek, Johannes, and the folks at Stratechery.
๐ Improved Instapaper Import โ Instapaper now supports tags, and thanks to Rasul, you can import them directly into Reader!
๐ Improved Embedded Links โ Embedded links in Substack and Medium articles now look better than ever, thanks to Krzys. These embeds will display the title (as a clickable link), an optional image, and a neat box styled like embedded tweets for a cleaner, more polished reading experience.
๐ Improved Filter & Sort โ Opening a document from a temporary filtered view should once again take you to the correct article. Also thanks to Mati, folders on the Manage Feeds page are now sorted alphabetically in addition to regular manual sorting.
๐ Improved Paged Scroll โ Artem fixed a rare bug that caused some documents to continuously display text instead of breaking properly at the end of the page.
๐ฃ๏ธ Added TTS Voices on Web โ The new English - V8
text to speech voices are now available on web and desktop.
๐ Parsing Updates โ Kryzs made improvements to how Reader handles posts from ycombinator.com, notion.so, theverge.com, zeit.de, nytimes.com, and substack.com.
